Kindergarten Curriculum

Personal and Social Education

Children learn to recognize and communicate their own feelings and emotions in appropriate ways; develop an awareness of their self-identity, and show self-confidence, self-worth, and increasing independence. They demonstrate awareness of and respect for the views, rights and differences of others.
English kindergarten Israel children learn that while homes look very different throughout the world, they still provide similar experiences for families. Kindergarten children learn different Social Skills, Fine Motor Skills & Work Habits.

Language

Students engage in speaking and listening across a wide range of activities—individually, in small groups, and in larger groups—while reading and writing are introduced in meaningful, play-based contexts using written and visual texts. Children develop their emerging literacy skills with an emphasis on exploration, where approximations are valued as part of the learning process. They are introduced to a variety of strategies for understanding texts and creating their own written and visual work. Kindergarten Language Arts focuses on developing reading habits, comprehension, print and sound recognition, writing habits and purposes, language use and conventions, as well as listening and language skills.

Our comprehensive standards-based LA curriculum follows The Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts (ELA) and Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects.

Mathematics

Kindergarten students build an understanding of addition, subtraction, measurement, probability, shapes, and spatial relationships through hands-on experiences and creative applications. They begin understanding mathematical ideas, learn to count and compare numbers up to 20 (and count to 100), and solve simple word problems. Through activities in arithmetic, geometry, and measurement—including identifying two- and three-dimensional shapes and comparing objects—students develop mathematical processes, communicate their thinking, reason mathematically, and recognize the role of mathematics in everyday life.

Social Studies

Children explore how culture and environment influence the homes people choose, and learn about natural and man-made resources and their impact. They also study cultural celebrations, diversity, citizenship, and community roles, developing empathy and understanding through literature, role play, and art. The Social Studies curriculum as well as other standards are helpful tools to build critical thinking, problem solving as well as a love for the world we are living in.

Science

Science in Kindergarten nurtures curiosity and wonder as children use their senses to observe, explore, and make connections about the world. They learn about water, soil, living things, weather, the environment, simple machines, and the use, impact, and reuse of natural and man-made materials. Learning takes place through hands-on experiences in the Outdoor Science Lab, the school’s organic garden, and the nearby beach, along with projects, field trips, and interdisciplinary activities such as Math, Science, Leonardo da Vinci, and architecture studies.

Our comprehensive standards-based Science curriculum is aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
