School Garden Program
The central challenge of our time is to create and maintain sustainable communities- social, cultural and physical environments in which we can satisfy our needs and aspirations without diminishing this potential for future generations. At the core of environmental education is the study and understanding of connections and cycles. Children have a natural affinity for the living world. School gardens are a powerful means of instilling lifelong environmental and nutritional literacy among children.
Our gardens serve as living laboratories for hands-on exploration and learning and seed saving can be a strong component of teaching ecosystems.
Forum is held Fridays on regular basis- parents, teachers and students participate. We discuss TreeHouse news, share our experience of the last few weeks.
Should certain subjects arise that a vote is needed – at Forum students, parents and teachers have a voice and a vote.
In Social Studies we learn about democratic systems and that each one of us has rights and duties. Forum is to practice those rights and duties.
Forum is a great way of learning what it means to be an equally accepted member of a society.
The Eco-School program helps students and teachers develop stronger relationships with their communities, it increases parental involvement and it reduces school waste and conserves natural resources.
The mission of Eco education is to encourage in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing and enabling our communities to improve the quality of life without compromising that of future generations.
