The TreeHouse International School (T.H.I.S)

An English speaking private school in the heart of Herzliya Pituah.

Founded in 1998, TreeHouse remains committed to its mission to provide an academically challenging education in a supportive environment to children from all around the world.

Today, the school represents a dynamic international community of over 20 nationalities. It's our intent to build a strong educational experience for every child at T.H.I.S through teamwork. Our team consists of students, teachers and parents. This team is the key to excellence in promoting and providing educational opportunities.

TreeHouse follows a U.S.- style curriculum with shades of the British National Curriculum guide and other practice guides. This  ensures the smooth transition of all of its students who leave Israel and enroll in schools overseas on re-location.

 

 

 

The Elementary School

Pre-K / Kindergarten / First Grade
Stimulating, hands-on materials allow for active learning. Students develop their own learning styles in social settings and classroom interaction. Listening, acquiring of expressive oral language, along with appreciation for reading and writing are essential skills. A major goal is concept development and readiness for a lifetime of self directed learning through curricular experiences, in mathematics as well as language and independent inquiry.

Second / Third Grade
An integrated, literature based language arts program provides children with opportunities to become independent readers, writers and thinkers. Numeration, exploring data, geometry, rules/patterns, operations, and measuring are topics of mathematics. Social studies addresses cultures, systems and society while selected science topics include: living things, earth/space and forces/energy.  Language Arts is integrated in all areas of study.

Fourth / Fifth Grade
Students develop the ability to work and think cooperatively and independently. Language Arts is integrated into all areas of study. Students participate in literature and writer’s workshops. In math, students explore formal operations with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, logic, estimation, problems solving, statistics, probability and geometry. Science topics are selected from: living things, earth/space, and forces/ energy. Social studies skill areas are: self/social awareness, cultures, geography, economics and government.

English as a Second Language (ESL)
ESL provides students daily assistance in small groups for 30-40 minutes.  English language structures are introduced, practiced and reinforced within the framework of meaningful topics and content areas appropriate to developmental age and academic needs. ESL children are mainstreamed for the remainder of the day.

 

French/ German/ Hebrew                                                                                          English is the school’s language of instruction, French/German/Hebrew are optional  foreign languages. In grade Pre-Kindergarten – Grade 5. These languages are  taught at different levels. Reading, writing, and grammatical concepts are appropriate for age and ability.

Computer
This program provides students computer hardware/software experience to enhance learning, with exposure to developmentally appropriate skills in computer literacy, application, information technology, uses of technology and computer ethics. Teachers, along with specialist, develop a program that is appropriate and supportive of classroom activities.

Art
The joy in creating art is an important part of life at the TreeHouse. T.H.I.S students are exposed to work by a variety of artists through stories, visual aides and gallery and museum visits. Students learn about color and elements of design, methods and collage, drawing, painting, printmaking, pottery and various construction activities using a wide range of media and techniques. All students will have some of their art work displayed in our annual art exhibition.

Music

Our music specialist provides opportunities to experience and enjoy music through singing, movement, and performing on classroom instruments. The curriculum focuses on: melody, rhythm, expression, timbre, texture, and form. Flute instruction in Grade 1. Strings instruction is available starting in Grade 2.

 

Physical Education

With one of Israel's most beautiful beaches virtually in our backyard, TreeHouse students benefit from seemingly limitless space to practice a varied and innovative program which includes gymnastics, ball games, swimming, surfing, Frisbees  etc. Treehouse students are also coached in tennis at courts located close to school. The goals are: improvement of gross and fine motor skills, recognition of physical limits while working to full potential; and the development of social skills such as peer support, cooperation and respect for one another.

Our experienced staff of teachers is dedicated to providing every child with the best educational opportunity possible.

 

The teachers at T.H.I.S are dedicated professionals with a commitment to on-going development. Most of the teachers have worked in different parts of the world, and their varied experiences and backgrounds enable them to enrich their teaching. Many teachers have been with the TreeHouse for long periods providing continuity and consistency in quality teaching.

 

Children grow and develop at different rates. It is important to look at the whole child; academically, developmentally, emotionally, and socially. TreeHouse children will be assessed in their strengths and challenges, while promoting the concept of being the best that they can be striving to reach individual goals.
